The brake shoe refers to the accessory that is pushed outward by the action of the brake cam or push rod to suppress the brake drum and exert braking effect. Its shape is like a half-moon shape.
Brake shoes generally consist of two parts: an iron lining plate and friction material. Do not wait until the friction material part is worn away before replacing the shoe. Shoes that have reached their service limit must be replaced. Even if they can still be used for a period of time, they will reduce the braking effect and affect driving safety.
When replacing, it is necessary to replace the brake pads with good quality. Only in this way can the braking effect between the brake pads and the brake disc be optimized and the wear and tear be minimized. When replacing the shoes, special tools must be used to push back the brake wheel cylinder. Do not use other crowbars to press back hard, as this may easily cause the brake caliper guide screws to bend and cause the brake pads to become stuck.
After replacing the shoe pads, be sure to apply the brakes several times to eliminate the gap between the shoe pads and the brake disc. As a result, the first step of the brake failure may cause accidents.
After the brake shoes are replaced, they need to be run-in to achieve the best braking effect. The newly replaced shoes must be driven with caution.
