The valve rocker arm is a critical component in the valvetrain of a motorcycle engine. It is responsible for transmitting the motion from the camshaft to the valves, allowing them to open and close at the appropriate times during the engine's operation.
The rocker arms are usually mounted on a rocker shaft or rocker arm assembly. They pivot on the shaft and have a contact point, often referred to as the rocker arm tip or pad, which comes into contact with the valve stem. As the camshaft rotates, the lobes lift the pushrods, which then pivot the rocker arms. This motion causes the rocker arm tips to press against the valve stems, opening the valves. When the camshaft lobes move away, valve springs close the valves, and the rocker arms return to their original position.
